The Wind of the East
I
Yes, it was another attack
of spleen…
But now it is morning,
the
air is fresh,
and the mountains are green.
The sun is so kind,
it
doesn't yet burn…
I look at the road,
it
leads to my home,
And I can return.
Chorus:
The wind of the East,
It pierces my heart.
The wind from the East,
It commands me to part.
I'm watching the sea,
I'm watching the the sky,
My freedom – hello!
My prison – good bye!
The freedom to live,
The freedom to love
Is given to us from above…
By the wind of the East!
II
In a Huck-Finn-like
fashion
I've climbed up the fence,
I'm watching the folk,
Going thither and thence –
These are humans, like me,
Neither better nor worse,
I'm waiting for him,
Who will take me home
On the back of his horse.
III
My heart, it was made
To love and to ache,
My hand, it was made
To give and to take,
And never destroy,
But always create,
I woke up this morning
For freedom and love,
Not for
fear and hate.
